The first edition of the UCI CRC 506 Gran Fondo Bicycle race was officially declared of public interest and has the Essential Costa Rica seal, this for being an event of the International Cycling Union (UCI), the highest organization in world cycling, and the only direct classification event for the World Grand Fund Championship, which this year will be held in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Gran Fondo on national soil will be on June 4 and it is of massive participation, some 2 thousand competitive and amateur cyclists are expected between the ages of 19 and 80, divided by categories.

    Combination of tourism and sport

“Currently, the combination of tourism and sport is becoming one of the most important attractions in the new tourist offer, since it is an expanding market and offers great economic benefits at the local and national level. In this type of tourism, sports and recreational activity constitutes a fundamental part, as well as the natural setting where it is projected, since more and more tourists want to have an active vacation, and cyclists from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, the United States and Canada have stated that they are coming to qualify for the World Championship”, specifies the document sent by ICODER.

With this declaration, the event has the support of municipal police, the Public Force and the Red Cross

“We are honored to have the opportunity to be part of this historic event for Costa Rica and we look forward to welcoming cyclists from all over the world who wish to qualify for the World Championship. We thank the Government of the Republic and other official entities for their support so that this event is a great experience for each participant,” said Manrique Mata, president of RPM and general director of the event.
