The work of the “Soy Niña” organization focuses on the prevention of gender violence and the prevention of pregnancies at an early age in Costa Rica. During the months of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the initiative has devised ways to continue its goal. For example, they have delivered physical packages that include a magazine on emotional support. Likewise, they have managed to maintain their participation in the weekly program offered on 570AM Radio Libertad every Wednesday, and their crisis and listening hotline.
“The support that Soy Niña has provided to the participants this year through its various projects has been vital. The girls and their families have seen their situations of vulnerability exacerbated by the Pandemic, so it has been essential to let them know that we are here for them right now,” explained Fernanda Chacón, director of the program.
Campaign “Empowerment gift” to obtain donations
Although the organization completed more than 10 months of implementing an emergency plan, girls who are part of the main NGO program: “Club Niña”, did not have the possibility to continue attending.
In order to continue with its work and ensure the financial sustainability of the organization, “Soy Niña” has a campaign to collect donations “Empowerment Gift”. Through the initiative’s website, anyone can donate the amount they want.
