Thanks to a recent strategic alliance between the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) and the television network RTL4, the country’s most iconic landscapes are now taking center stage in Dutch households through the documentary series “Sky High.”

This initiative aims not only to showcase Costa Rican biodiversity but also to invite a high-potential audience to experience the “Pura Vida” lifestyle firsthand.

A Visual Journey Through the Heart of the Tropics

Over the course of four episodes, host Suus de Brock and her production team explore the natural and cultural wealth of various regions. The show, which is also available on Videoland (the leading streaming service in the Netherlands), highlights destinations that blend adventure, relaxation, and sustainability:

La Fortuna and Tortuguero: The contrast between majestic volcanoes and navigable canals teeming with wildlife.

Guanacaste: The beaches of Tamarindo, Carrillo, and Sámara are presented as the ultimate sun and sea retreats.

Río Celeste and Monteverde: A focus on the mysticism of turquoise waters and the biodiversity of the cloud forest.

Strategic Impact and Massive Reach

This promotion is more than just a visual showcase; it is a masterful tourism marketing move with impressive figures:

 1. TV Audience: an estimated reach of 750,000 viewers per episode aired on Sundays.

 2. Streaming: between 1 and 3 million views on the Videoland platform.

 3. Urban Presence: the campaign is complemented by 2 million impressions in outdoor advertising and heavy activity on social media.

 Direct Connection and Key Market

One of the factors facilitating this promotion is connectivity. Thanks to direct flights from KLM, Dutch travelers can fly from Amsterdam to San José non-stop, positioning the Netherlands as the fifth-largest source of European tourists for Costa Rica.

More Than Landscapes: Sustainable Luxury

The focus of “Sky High” goes beyond aesthetics. The content emphasizes sustainability, wellness, and local culture. Additionally, through a partnership with the tour operator Riksja, specialized travel packages are being offered to those inspired by what they see on screen.

“This projection allows us to showcase our country’s multiple attractions from an authentic and aspirational perspective,” noted representatives from the ICT.
