I am not only a fluent Spanish-English reader/speaker but also a bi-cultural person who has a broad solid background. I also have a passionate interest in different expressions of music, especially many American styles and their combinations (Folk-Country, Jazz, Pop, Rhythm and Blues, Rock, Soul, and so on), dance, stage and screen, and some other forms of artistic expression.

The largest arts festival in Costa Rica and the region will reach the cantons of Orotina and Esparza-main locations- and Riojalandia de Puntarenas -sub-location-, from Thursday, March 28th, to Sunday, April 7th. Under the slogan “La Ventana a Lo Nuestro”, the 12th Edition of the National Festival of Arts -FNA 2019- proposes a varied offer with more than 280 free activities, 180 performances, and more than 1,300 artists.

“The National Festival of the Arts is a celebration that allows us to meet our cultural and territorial diversity and, in tune with the Bicentennial, with inspiring elements of our history. On this occasion, we celebrate 30 years of the Costa Rica Arts Festival with the beautiful Orotina area and the historic corner of Esparza. They are the main venues of this which have positioned itself as the largest artistic gathering in the region”, said Sylvie Durán Salvatierra, Minister of Culture and Youth.

Why Orotina and Esparza? Among the main reasons taken into account to define the venues of the Festival are capacity for the community organization, the commitment of local governments, and the high potential for cultural development, among other aspects of technical relevance.

“Orotina is a canton with a historic artistic tradition, which today we honor with an active cultural and social agenda for an Orotinense family that not only works, but also feels, yearns, and dreams. That is why we are filled with joy when we are selected as co-hosts of the FNA 2019, which we receive full of joy, hope, and commitment”, highlighted Margot Montero Jiménez, mayor of Orotina.

For its part, the corner of Esparza, receives with open arms the 12th edition of the FNA from March 28th to April 7th, 2019, and invites you to be participants in all artistic and cultural activities, as well as the beauties of its land and its people, added the mayor of the corner of Punta Arenas, Asdrúbal Calvo Chaves.

    Programming of FNA 2019

The FNA 2019 will have more than 20 locations, among which are sports squares, parks, municipal gymnasiums, schools, and streets; which will house at least 80 shows of dance, music, theater, cinema, circus, and literature.

During the 11 days of the festival, the public will also be able to acquire the products produced by different craft, design, agroindustry and gastronomy ventures. Likewise, the proposal of the Route of the Arts will extend the arts festival in four communities from March 28 to 31 in Villanueva and Esparsol (San Juan Chiquito) and from April 4th to 7th in Limonal and San Mateo.

“With the Route of the Arts, we seek to generate a space of greater knowledge and interaction between artists and neighbors of the communities. In addition to their shows, the artists will share different workshops and talk with a participatory and creative format. In addition, other articulations that we will share soon”, concluded the Minister of Culture and Youth.

Nakury, EX-ÁNIMA, and the Cimarrona Santo Domingo are some of the groups that will participate in the FNA 2019 Arts Route.
