Costa Rica announced today the elimination of the need for a negative Covid-19 test for people from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao to enter the country. The Ministry of Health specified that this measure responds to the consultation made to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Health Surveillance Directorate, after which a technical criterion and recommendation on the epidemiological behavior of Covid-19 was issued.19 in China, and its regions and territories of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The director of Health Surveillance of the aforementioned portfolio, Rodrigo Marín pointed out that, based on epidemiological monitoring it was found that the Western Pacific Region registered an 80 percent decrease in new cases of Covid-19, as well as a low 86 percent of deaths from this disease.
Low to no-risk
For this reason and based on the available epidemiological data, there is evidence of a decrease in the risk of spreading Covid-19 by people traveling from China, including its regions and provinces, for which reason the prohibition to enter Costa Rica is repealed for people arriving from those territories, Marín reiterated.
