Becoming a platform that sponsors and makes visible the talent of Costa Rican women of different generations is the objective of the “Ellas” event, which will bring together female exponents of national rock. The event, created within the framework of International Women’s Day, takes place on March 8th at Jazz Café Escazú, starting at 7:30 pm.
This edition will feature fifteen artists
“In Costa Rica there is a lot of female talent, but I think there is a lack of spaces to make it visible, being part of this I Edition of Ellas – Rock for me means taking advantage of this new platform to make music together, and a great opportunity to demonstrate the talent that there is” said Maddie Serrano, bassist with the National Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestra of Costa Rica.
The repertoire will include songs by figures of the genre such as Janis Joplin, Annie Lenox, Joan Jett to Alanis Morissette, Courtney Love, Miley Cyrus and more. The national artists who will perform these songs have extensive musical careers on both local and international stages, belong to active bands on the scene, and have professional careers in different branches of music.
Putting their seeds
“From the management, production and interpretation part, I feel very happy to be able to carry out a concert like this. We are not starting from scratch; many women from all fields have put their seed, and it is up to the new generations to guarantee an easier path for those who come and continue promoting equal opportunities in art through music”, said Ana María Aguilar, co-producer Ellas – Rock, presenter and singer.
Tickets cost ₡10,000 colones in advance and ₡12,000 colones on the day of the event. They can be purchased by calling 7209-7636.
