In fact, a new international film, The Librarian, is currently being filmed in the country. The shooting began in early July and will take places in several locations of the country such as San Jose, Manuel Antonio, Puntarenas, Arenal, and others.

The Librarian, starring academy award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Spanish actor Oscar Jaenada, is about a librarian (Harden) from Los Angeles who goes through a mid life crisis and then decides to travel to Costa Rica hoping to find herself and start a new life.

Harden won the Oscar in 2000 for best supporting actress for her role in the film “Pollack.” She has also starred in “Meet Joe Black”, “Into the Wild,” “Space Cowboys” and “Mona Lisa Smile, “among others.

Meanwhile, Jaenada has had starring roles in the films “Trash,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides,” among others. He was also cast for the leading role of the film dedicated to the life of famous comedian Mario Moreno Cantinflas, which will be released soon.

Among the Costa Rican actors who star in the Librarian are Manolo Ruiz and Pablo Rodriguez (known for playing Paco and Joaquin in the Costa Rican series La Pension), Maria Bonilla, Beatriz Rojas and Mauricio Astorga.

The film is produced by Critics Films and Mano a Mano films, both from Los Angeles.

“Costa Rica is almost a character in the film, which highlights the natural beauty of our country. The have done a good job in terms of photography by choosing very nice locations and for us, as actors, the experience has been really wonderful, “said Astorga.

The film is directed by John Feldman and produced by Joel Silverman.

The production team of “The Librarian” will be filming until July 30th.
