Costa Rica received this past Tuesday the Torch of Independence from Nicaragua. The Minister of Education, Anna Katharina Müller, received the torch from her Nicaraguan counterpart Lilliam Herrera in PeñasBlancas.

Then, Müller was in charge of delivering the patriotic fire to the student Hilary Morales, who stands out at the LiceoDiurno de La Cruz for her academic excellence and leadership.

“Hilary is the first student to run in Costa Rica carrying the national symbol of the Torch. Approximately 20,000 students will carry the fire to the different communities on the main route”, reported the MEP.

Meanwhile, the head of the MEP stressed that after 201 years of independent life, Costa Rica urgently needs to continue working on education as a constitutive element of the identity of this country.

“It calls on us to unite the forces of the entire society to turn on the light again, leaving behind the negative and replacing it with the positive and, in this way, look to the future with hope”, declared the minister.

    The tour

In total, the light will cover 373 kilometers between PeñasBlancas and Cartago. To celebrate the arrival of the cauldron in each main city, civic and cultural acts are prepared where freedom is commemorated through 201 years of independent life.
