Alegra, a leading cloud accounting and AI management platform for SMEs in Latin America, has officially launched Alegra Bot, its first specialized AI accounting agent tailored for Costa Rica. The tool enables accountants, accounting firms, and small business owners to query financial metrics, generate detailed reports, and receive real-time business insights using natural language prompts.
The software operates directly on top of the financial and accounting data managed within the platform, natively integrated with Costa Rican electronic invoicing requirements—including v4.4 electronic receipts and official CAByS codes (Catálogo de Bienes y Servicios). Requests such as “how are sales tracking this month?”, “show me where expenses are highest”, or “prepare a bank reconciliation” are instantly converted into interactive reports that users can review online, export to Excel or PDF, send via email, or query natively through WhatsApp.
A Native Evolution of the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
This product debut comes months after Alegra established its MCP (Model Context Protocol) server in Costa Rica, becoming the first accounting platform in Latin America to officially enable the standard. Through that integration, financial professionals could connect their accounts to external LLM assistants like Claude or ChatGPT to check electronic vouchers, CAByS codes, D-150 tax forms, and client balances without manually exporting CSV files.
Alegra Bot marks the next step in this strategy: rather than relying solely on external assistants, Alegra now integrates AI capabilities directly into daily operational workflows. Developed in Latin America, the tool allows users to query raw data, interpret financial statements, and schedule automated background tasks.

According to internal platform data from Alegra, automated accounting workflows save users an average of 6.1 hours per week.

Alegra’s AI agent aims to automate these operational tasks, allowing CPAs to dedicate more billable hours to strategic tax planning and business advisory.
