The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The National Council of Universities (CNU) announced that it will form a committee of environmental experts from Nicaragua and abroad to deepen knowledge of the alleged impact suffered by the San Juan River because of a road built across the border in the territory.
ten universities that make up the CNU, mostly public, will pool forces with other universities and scientific institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, with whom they have cooperative agreements for research.
CNU’s decision came two weeks after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rejected for lack of arguments, injunctions brought by Nicaragua in relation to what it considers damage to the Costa Rican San Juan River during construction of a road next to his bed.
The objective of the CNU is “to generate scientific management and sustainable use of natural resources for the economic, social and human development of the department of Río San Juan and expertise,” said the document.
