There are some places in Costa Rica that are a must-go. One of those places is San Rafael de Heredia, a canton where nature abounds. It’s not far from downtown, 40 kilometers from the capital city.

Here a short list of these incredible places to enjoy.

    1. Monte de la Cruz

One of the most popular sites of the big city. It is located 8 kilometers away from San Rafael de Heredia downtown. It is an ideal place to go hiking with friends or family.

One of the most popular attractions is the pathway to the cross, from where it is possible to have a splendid view of the Valle Central (Central Valley).

This park counts on farms, soccer pitches, playgrounds, green areas and a volcanic lagoon.

It is open to the public everyday from 8am to 4pm.

    1. Bosque de la Hoja

Bosque de la Hoja is managed by the San Rafael municipality. It is located in los Angeles de San Rafael de Heredia, in front of Refranes Restaurant.

It is a great place to spend the afternoon lying on the grass breathing fresh air. The climate is cool and there is a 6-kilometer long pathway.

It has a lot of recreational areas and places to go for a picnic.

It only opens on weekends from 9am to 5pm.

    3. Dantas Wildlife Refuge

If you are looking to go trekking, you can go to Cerro Dantas. This beautiful wildlife refuge is literally located in the mountain.

There are three routes that lead you to three different places.

    1. Pathway to  Piedras Verdes.
    2. Ecological expedition.
    3. Catarla Velo de la Novia.

These installations have an office, eating sites, toilets, hot-water showers and electricity.

You can take the bus or a sharetaxi to go there.

It opens everyday from 7am to 4pm.

For all the ladies out there looking for a unique hike, a women’s version of Vision Quest is taking flight in October 2017 with Phoenix Rising. This challenging trek through the jungle with the support of sacred plant medicines will push you to your physical and mental limits and challenge you to step beyond them.
