The torch, from Nicaragua was received by the Education Minister Leonardo Garnier, who said in a speech that the “brotherhood and peaceful coexistence” of Central American peoples.
The torch started its journey of 376 kilometers per Costa Rica, where hundreds of students will be responsible to run with it from Peñas Blancas to the city of Cartago (center), former colonial capital of the country.
A high school student was the first to take the torch is expected to reach the city of Carthage morning at about 19.00 local time (0100 GMT Sunday), where the president, Laura Chinchilla, will star in an official ceremony.
With the stroke of the Central American Torch of Peace and Freedom American countries commemorate the 192 year anniversary of independence from the Crown of Spain
