Paulo Wanchope Appointed as the Next Head Football Coach for Costa Rica

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Today the Costa Rican Football Federation (Fedefútbol) will officially announce Paulo César Wanchope as the new coach for the country to try and take the team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Fedefútbol President Eduardo Li, will be in charge of making the announcement at a press conference. “Chope” was an assistant to Colombian Jorge Luis Pinto before and during the World Cup Brazil 2014, in which Costa Rica surprised the world making it to the quarterfinals for the first time in history.

Pinto did not renew his contract due to professional differences with the Federation and Wanchope.

The first test of the year for Costa Rica will be a friendly match at home against Paraguay on March 31 and the next official challenge the for the CONCACAF Gold Cup will be played from June 4 to 24 in the USA and Canada.

Costa Rica World Cup qualifying will start in November. (ACAN-EFE)
