The Isla del Coco National Park reported the discovery of a new species of endemic plant in its territory. This means that these are plants native to the island and that they are not found naturally in other areas. In this specific case, it is the species “Stenospermationcoques”, from the Araceae family; these are similar to anthuriums or coves.

The research on the new species was carried out by Alexander Rodriguez of the National Museum, Orlando Ortíz of the University of Panama and FreieUniversität of Berlin, Marco Cedeño from the University of Costa Rica, and the FreieUniversität of Berlin itself, Germany, were also part of the group.
The discovery in the field is attributed to park ranger Diego Madrigal Ramírez. He was accompanied on the expedition by park ranger Guillermo Blanco Segura; as well as by the Paramedic Firefighter, Jonathan Loría Hernández. “We continue working with great motivation to conserve the biodiversity of the most beautiful Island in the World”, said the National Park.
