People will no longer be able to smoke on Jacó beach after the tourist destination was declared smoke-free.The measure was announced this past Wednesday within the framework of the commemoration of World Oceans Day.
“Garabito is recognized for our beaches. This is another way to reactivate the economy and declaring Jacó beach free of smoke and tobacco and also continues to position us on environmental issues,” said Tobías Murillo, mayor of Garabito.
Replicated in other cantons
Within the canton’s plans is to begin with the labeling of the beaches as smoke-free spaces and the process of creating a volunteer program.It is expected that the measure can be replicated in other cantons of the country and declare more beaches as “no-smoking zones”.
