Since Saturday, Río Cuarto de Alajuela is the new canton of Costa Rica. This was communicated by the Government through a press release.
Río Cuarto is the 82nd canton of the country and it borders with Sarapiquí to the East, with San Carlos to the West and North and to the South with Valverde Vega and Alajuela Centro. It also has 32 villages.
The act of approval of the law that declares it as a canton was held on Saturday, during a tour of President Luis Guillermo Solís and the first lady, Mercedes Peñas, in the area.
Eleven thousand people live in this 254.2-square-kilometer territory. The families are engaged in agricultural activities, livestock and planting vegetables.
Río Cuarto used to belong to the canton of Grecia. Because of the distance from the capital of this place, it was very complicated for the neighbors of this area to enjoy the services of education and health.
