At 6:45 PM, June 3, 2012 a 5.3 earthquake struck 21 km southwest of PUERTO LA PLAYA in Golfito, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. No damage has been reported as yet. The Costa Rica News (TCRN) will update this report as soon as further information is available.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported reported a 6.2-magnitude earthquake striking off the southern coast of Panama, 215 miles south of David, Panama, and almost 330 miles southwest of the Panama City.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center advised there was no threat of a tsunami.

The USGS reported the quake as a 6.4. The conflicting data is being investigated. At first it was though to be separate event. Later the experts were speculating it was singular even that was spread across the a portion of the connecting plates. You see below Costa Rica and Panama sit at the convergence of three tectonic plates; Nazca Plat, Caribbean Plate and the South American Plate. This can make for a rocky ride for our little land bridge, as these plate shift against one another.
