The streets of downtown San José were filled this September 15th with students, music, and patriotic celebration. Students from various educational institutions marched to commemorate 205 years of Costa Rican Independence.
In the heart of the capital, young people traveled the route between San José Central Park and the José Figueres Ferrer Democracy Plaza, while families and spectators gathered along the way to join the event.
From early in the morning, parents and relatives arrived to watch their children and classmates march. The celebration also featured color guards, escorts, and marching bands that brought rhythm to the patriotic day.
The parade stood out due to the participation of elementary and high school delegations from different parts of the country:
- Student Bands: Performed patriotic marches and traditional rhythms that energized spectators along the route.
- Color Guards and Escorts: Led the institutional blocks carrying the National Flag and patriotic banners with discipline and civic fervor.
- Cultural Expression and Attire: Students wearing traditional costumes, floral arrangements, and folkloric elements to honor Costa Rican identity.
The parades are part of the activities through which Costa Rica commemorates Central American Independence every September 15th. The region’s separation from Spain occurred on September 15, 1821, in Guatemala City, while Costa Rica’s decision was subsequently adopted on October 29 of that same year.
The event reaffirms the commitment of new generations to historical memory, peace, and the country’s democratic tradition, bringing the community together in an atmosphere of coexistence and national pride.
