Costa Rica’s Turrialba Volcano continues its active phase erupting and releasing ash a number of times on Thursday, April 23, 2015. The outburst caused 16 flights to be delayed or cancelled.
Turrialba Volcano started this active phase last October, and then saw larger eruption last month and April 5, 2015.
Scientists with the University of Costa Rica’s National Seismological Network (RSN) are watching the volcano close during this active phase.
There was wide spread reports of falling ash in San Jose and as far as West Alajuela.
This Turrialba eruption follows closely on the heels of Calbuco Volcano 3 located in southern Chile, which also erupted yesterday April 23, 2015, cause flight cancellation and evacuations.
