The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Costa Rica authorities identified 2 Canadians with the surnames Dejaney, Ghanathas, Asantarajah and Kishokumar, that were arrested last week in San Jose for the crime of computer fraud.
The Judiciary said in a statement that the Canadians, aged between 25 and 36 years, apparently secured credit cards from people from Canada and then “made ATM withdrawals” in Costa Rica.
“His modus operandi was to use magnetic stripe information of cardholders and plastics included in silver or white, without any logo, name, numbers or other security badges,” said the bulletin.
Officials estimate that the Canadians withdrew at least $50,000 from ATMs.
At the time of their arrest the officers seized 150 cards and a device that allowed them to insert the same data on the magnetic strips. EFE
