The Costa Rica Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) has announced a special plan for bus routes to and from La Sabana during the week of the inauguration of the new National Stadium.
At a press meeting held at the sports stadium, MOPT introduced new bus routes from Alajuela, Heredia, Moravia, and Santa Ana to the National Stadium (estadio nacional) to avoid traffic jams. The deputy minister of transport, Maristella Vaccari, said that the traffic police will carry out a transit operation from Saturday at 1 am in order to control the traffic flow and make sure that people don’t park their vehicles in the vicinity of La Sabana.
Vaccari added that the police will also close some roads around La Sabana during the first week, except on the opening day this Saturday, March 26.
There will be no parking near the stadium, but there are special parking areas located in Tibás, Belén and Heredia.
The organizers also mentioned that train services will be available from Montes de Oca and Heredia to La Sabana, and encouraged attendees of the stadium events to use public transportation instead of their cars during the week.
