[TCRN] – The 39th summit of Central American Integration System (SICA) was held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, this past weekend. (Nicaragua President Daniel Ortega to head up Central American Integration System).

SICA is Central America’s regional partnership organization for trade, economic, and politics.

Panamanian Trade Minister Ricardo Quijano officially signed the agreement incorporating Panama into SICA.

One of the corner stone of this meeting was Comprehensive Association Agreement signed by Central America and the European Union which is now signed by Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. After the United State the EU is Central America second largest trade partner.

Also over the weekend Panama President Ricardo Martinelli celebrated his administrations 3rd anniversary since taking office.

Speaking at the National Assembly, the president said that his administration made Panama grow in transportation, security, tourism wages, housing and technology and that the quality of life has improved for Panamanians.

Martinelli, did not make reference to the mounting protests and violence over the past couple weeks, regarding two bills that would have sold off state assets and creation a new court chamber for constitutional guarantees.
