Global Peace Index Ranks Costa Rica as the Fourth Safest Country in Latin America

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Costa Rica was named the fourth safest country in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI 2014) by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

Costa Rica was ranked at number 52 in the global index, which assesses military spending, relations with neighboring countries, number of homicides, organized crime and respect for human rights.

The other Latin American countries that placed better than or similar to Costa Rica are Uruguay (29), Chile (30), Argentina (43), Costa Rica (52) and Panama (57).

Public Safety Minister Gustavo Vega Mata was pleased with this assessment and he ensures that they will continue working hard to keep Costa Rica as a national and international model. (ADN)
