The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The United States will provide technical support to Costa Rica for an increased use of reduced-risk pesticides, which have a low impact on the environment.

The aid was agreed by signing a memorandum of understanding between the State Phytosanitary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Costa Rica (MAG) and the Interregional Research Project Number 4 (IR-4), sponsored by the Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The bill provides that the parties may identify the need for common pest management, participate in training for pest prioritization and testing for data generation, among other things, explained a statement.

Pesticides in the IR-4 should prove to be safe for all fish, wildlife, bird species, should have little or no impact on shallow or deep waters, and also cause minimal effects on beneficial insects. (EFE)
