The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – BK Central has announced the closure of four Burger King franchises in Costa Rica, leaving 39 people without jobs.

Of the 33 restaurants in the country, these four are closing on Saturday: Heredia, Plaza Real Cariari, Paseo Metrópoli and Santo Domingo.

The general manager of Burger King in Costa Rica, Mario Jimenez, said through a press release that the closures are unrelated to other companies that recently stopped doing business in the country.

“We know that in recent weeks there have been closures of other companies similar to ours, but these four cases of have nothing to do with the reasons given by others; in our case, these premises are not viable from a financial point of view,” said the manager.

The first chain restaurant opened in the country in 1990 in San Pedro.

Burger King has locations in San José, Alajuela, Guapiles, Liberia, La Fortuna de San Carlos, Lemon, and Nicoya, among other cities.

The previous Thursday, the Costa Rican company Alimentos Jack’s announced the transfer of half its operations to the United States, El Salvador and Nicaragua, citing high costs of electricity and gas. (Amelia Rueda)
