The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Minister of Environment and Energy (MINAE), Edgar Gutiérrez, acknowledged to ADN Radio 90.7 FM how difficult it has been to lower electricity rates as promised in his campaign.
The high cost of electricity tariffs is the thorn preventing any changes for months, which has been especially hard on businesses.
But according to Gutierrez, the heads of the companies do not ask for a reduction in rates, but rates that are more competitive.
The owner of MINAE recognized that Costa Rica must ensure renewable energy, although he admits that this type of power generation is more expensive.
According to Gutierrez, this summer they will be ready to launch a plan to improve electricity tariffs, although no definite date has been established. (ADN)
