    Former Costa Rica President Jose Maria Figueres participated in the World Future Energy Summit 2012 held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, January 15-17 as guest of His Highness Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and guest of Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of MASDAR the sponsor of WFES. Mr. Figueres spoke in a Minister’s Panel on The Role of Government Institutions in Accelerating the Transition to a Global Clean Energy Economy.

    At the Summit, Mr Figueres spoke with The Costa Rica News’ correspondent at length about his current activities in sustainable activities which include his position on the Executive Board of the Carbon War Room, founded by Richard Branson. Mr. Figueres stated that the Carbon War Room’s purpose is to break down market barriers for capital to flow to entrepreneurial solutions to climate change, creating profit opportunities for carbon reduction infrastructure investment.

    Mr. Figueres indicated that he and Richard Branson may participate in the UBA Sustainable Energy Conference 2012 in San Jose in November.
