Fasting might just be the new upcoming thing in holistic healing! So what’s the hype about?
Well, in today’s society so many humans suffer from adrenal fatigue, chronic illness, depression, cancer, dementia and the list goes on… When we consult our doctors they only prescribe us the normal drug (that they get paid for subscribing), and we believe, in essence, that these “medication” will heal us but, in all truth, these prescribed medications purely suppress the symptoms of our illness. Your body is calling your attention for healing, and it knows how to heal itself in its own natural way. It’s been interesting to see how many of us are looking for a more holistic way to heal. There is a shift in consciousness and awareness, and it’s so exciting and liberating!
Researchers at the University of Southern California announced that fasting can regenerate the human immune system for healthy living. The researchers reported their study as “remarkable and major breakthrough” in finding holistic methods to boost the immune system.
Fasting has a bad rep from the western medicine world, and I believe it’s because fasting is truly one of the most powerful ways to heal yourself. The scientific study of the health benefits of fasting began in thmid-193030’s where Clive McCay published a paper showing that the restricting the calories fed to rats in a lab, without producing malnutrition, prolonged their lifespan.
In the past, fasting diets have been denounced by nutritionists for being unhealthy and dangerous. However, this new study suggests that starving the body jump-starts stem cells into producing new white blood cells, which fight off infection. Their discovery could be particularly beneficial for people suffering from damaged immune systems, such as cancer patients on chemotherapy.
As people grow and consume food with GMO and non-organic foods on a daily basis, their immune system becomes weak, making it more challenging for them to fight off even common diseases. As per this study, fasting could help them get their immune system back on track. Fasting also protects cancer patients against the toxic impact of chemotherapy.
Fasting also has shown to have many other health benefits. Research has shown that rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease were lower after longer fasts.
Lead researcher of the study Professor Valter Longo, who serves as professor of Gerontology and the Biological Sciences at the University of California, reported that study confirmed that fasting may indeed help the human body to produce a new immune system.
It gives the ‘OK’ for stem cells to go ahead and begin proliferating and rebuild the entire system. And the good news is that the body got rid of the parts of the system that might be damaged or old, the inefficient parts, during the fasting. Now, if you start with a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or aging, fasting cycles can generate, literally, a new immune system.” Professor Longo said.
Intermittent fasting gives your body time to effectively digest what you are eating and eliminate waste. There are many biological repair processes take place when your body is in the “rest,” not the “digest,” mode. In essence, your body is not designed to run optimally when it’s continuously fed, how ironic since this is what we are told by society.
The researchers also found that fasting helped to produce a new immune system as well as reducing the enzyme PKA, a hormone which increases cancer risk that is also linked to aging.
