The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Last Friday a Court in Desamparados accepted the request for legal recognition made by a same-sex couple. The petition was granted amid a strong fight of several groups that advocate sexual diversity and legalization of same sex marriage in Costa Rica.
The men´s request was considered for further study, according to the lawyer Marco Castillo, who is also an activist for gay rights. Last Wednesday six same-sex couples filed similar petitions in different courts.
The requests were made a week after the Legislature approved a legislation that implies subtle recognition of the rights of same sex marriages. However, it has met with strong opposition from conservatives and the Catholic Church.
