The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The latest edition of the International Cocoa Awards held in Paris, France in October found that cocoa produced in Costa Rican territory is, thanks to its quality, among the 50 best varieties in the world.
This time, Costa Rica took a sample of the La Dorada San Luis, located in the Pocosol area of San Carlos (Alajuela province).
The area has planted 42 hectares of the cocoa variety “Trinitarian” along with 33 hectares devoted to dairy cattle and 23 acres of woodland.
Elkin Restrepo Mejia, who runs the farm in partnership with his father, said this recognition has come quickly and unexpectedly.
“We are just taking our first steps and this forces us to rush a little, but we are very pleased and grateful for the new excellent price for our cocoa production, which is two or three times above the stock price,” said Mejia.
