    Costa Rica Seized 4.6 Tons of Cocaine in the Caribbean This Year

    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Costa Rican police has seized, 4.6 tons of cocaine and 1.47 tons of marijuana so far this year in the Caribbean through reinforcement coastguard, affirmed today Security Minister, Mario Zamora.

    According Zamora, on the coast of Caribbean Costa Rica went from having a single station Coast Guard to four, that have been equipped with more speedboats, and personnel better enabled, that “allows continuous coordination with the Agency de Investigaciรณn Judicial (OIJ) and the Attorney, thereby achieving more frequent and aimed blows against international drug trafficking”.

    Besides drug, the minister highlighted in a statement that the motorboats police also often intercept boats with fuel which supply the ships of drug traffickers.

    Between January and June, police seized 15,396 liters Fuel and 11 vessels linked with drug trafficking in Caribbean Costa Rican waters, said Zamora, who announced permanent actions in an area to intercept South American traffickers.

    These operations in the Caribbean have left a total of 12 persons arrested.

    The new posts of Coastguard have at their service boats that were seized months ago with strong quantities of drugs, most of Colombian nationality.

    Costa Rica and Colombia are studying the possibility of an agreement for joint patrols in the Caribbean, to strengthen monitoring in the area. EFE
