SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA — Costa Rica stands as the nation with the second-highest cyber resilience in the Caribbean and Central America, achieving an index score of 53%, according to the latest Regional Cyber Resilience Ranking published by cybersecurity company SISAP.

The result places Costa Rica just behind the Dominican Republic, which leads the region at 54%.

The ranking reflects notable variations in how countries across the region prevent, respond to, and recover from rapidly evolving digital threats:

While the ranking signals important progress, industry experts emphasize that cybersecurity demands continuous investment and modernization.

$1.4 Billion in Potential Economic Exposure

SISAP’s cyber risk quantification analysis identified five critical sectors that together account for 91% ($1.4 billion) of Costa Rica’s total national potential economic risk during a severe cyber incident:

  1. 🏛️ Government Sector: Tops potential exposure with $190.9 million (0.53% of GDP).
  2. 🏦 Financial Services: $177 million in potential losses (0.44% of GDP).
  3. 🏭 Manufacturing: $124.4 million in exposure (0.40% of GDP).
