Costa Rica’s government said today that while they mourn the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, send their sympathy to the South American country, they hope that Venezuela “finds its way into democracy, peace and institutionalization.”
The Costa Rican Foreign Minister Enrique Castillo, said that “Venezuelan society expects to overcome this loss and set its course in the country’s democratic institutions.”
“There is a clear improvement in social indicators of Venezuela… this new phase is fortunate for the Venezuelan people and we hope they can find your way to ensure progress and well-being,” said the chancellor.
Costa Rican Minister of Communication, Francisco Chacon, said on the President of the Republic Twitter account they the government of Costa Rica expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan people.
Costa Rica was never a Chavez ally in Latin America, and is not part of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) and Petrocaribe, Chavez major initiatives on the continent.
