Costa Rica’s president, Laura Chinchilla, welcomed the new Pope Francisco and said she wants to give him a tree that can followed from the Vatican via a satellite system.
The president told reporters today that because of “austerity” that has characterized the pope, has thought to give him a tree native to Costa Rica, but said it has not been officially defined.
Chinchilla said that the tree will send the message of being a “green nation committed to environmental sustainability” and a symbol growth.
“The tree would be given through a georeference system (satellite) so that the pope can go to monitor the growth,” it would be planted in Costa Rica, said the president, who is a devout Catholic.
“We seek to represent tree species in values and also represent the Catholic Church for robustness, and strength,” said Chinchilla.
The president will attend Tuesday’s inauguration of Pope Francisco at the Vatican, accompanied by Economy Minister Mayi Antillon.
