Mexico’s footprint in space science is far larger than most people realize—and much of it was built by women whose names rarely appear in textbooks. From NASA laboratories to international research institutions, Mexican women have quietly helped push humanity deeper into space. Mexicanas en el Espacio brings their stories out of the shadows and into the spotlight.
Written by Ana Luisa Monge Naranjo, Javier Montiel, and Bruce James Callow, Mexican Women in space explores how Mexico has played a far more important role in major advances in astronomy, engineering, planetary science, and space education are Mexican women whose work has helped shape international space programs, including NASA and leading research institutions. This carefully researched volume brings these stories together for the first time in one place.
Rather than focusing solely on rockets and missions, the book centers on people. It profiles women working across astrophysics, aerospace engineering, science communication, education, and mission support—fields where their influence continues to shape global space exploration. Many of these professionals have worked across borders, strengthening scientific collaboration between Mexico and the international space community while inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.
To mark the release of the book, the public is invited to attend an upcoming launch event hosted by the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, in collaboration with the International Aerospace Academy and the ISS Mimic initiative. The launch will take place on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. Houston time, and will feature a panel discussion on the challenges, opportunities, and leadership of women in the aerospace sector.
To ensure broad participation, the event will be livestreamed through the official channels of Vibra Latina Houston, allowing members of the international community to join remotely.

During the event, panelists will receive special recognition for their impact and contributions to the aerospace field, and the Consulate will announce a new aerospace education initiative aimed at expanding access and opportunity for the Latin American community.
