According to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI), the earthquake tonight was felt in most of the country and had a magnitude of 4.8 degrees on the Richter scale.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), reported a magnitude of 4.7 degrees.
The Geological Survey reported on its website that the quake was located near Abangares, Guanacaste, about 76 miles southeast of Liberia. The OVSICORI pinpointed it 7 miles east of Las Juntas de Abangares.
The quake was recorded at 7:31 pm and had a depth of about 50 kilometers. Its origin was tectonic plate subduction local.
The quake was felt in Guanacaste, Puntarenas and parts of the Central Valley (we certainly felt it in Alajuela!). No severe damage has been reported yet.
