Previously known as the Costa Rican Film and Video Festival, for its 19th edition this year, the festival changed its name as it included features from Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
The event is sponsored by the Costa Rican Center of Cinematographic Production of the Ministry of Culture and produced by Tiempo Liquido Productions.
According to Patricica Velázquez, co-owner and producer at Tiempo Liquido, “The reason the name changed was because for the first time, the festival broadens its field of action and becomes a festival for Central America and the Caribbean, as a response to the growing effervescence of the audiovisual production in the entire region”.
Among the fifteen films competing for best full-length picture is the Costa Rican film “Gestación”, which generated high praise both nationally and internationally when it premiered two years ago.
The remaining categories are: short film, short subject documentary, full-length documentary, animated film, and video clips.
All works will be shown at Variedades Theater, and they will be evaluated by accomplished and well-known figures of the industry of film and cinema from Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and the United States, according to the Center of Cinematographic Production.

Attendees can participate in these activities free of charge, thus having the opportunity to learn from and share experiences with several experts in the fields of audiovisual production.
“We believe in the need to promote encounters with well- known figures of cinematographic productions and markets bigger and more developed than ours, who can contribute to the training of our filmmakers and producers” Velazquez said.
The San Jose International Film and Video Festival is the most important event of its genre, gathering some of the most prestigious members of the audiovisual community from Central America and the Caribbean, as well as a large number of cinema fans.
The award ceremony will be held at Variedades Theaters on November 7th, the last day of the festival.
Tickets to each show cost ¢1500. Also, a pass for the entire festival is available for ¢10000. On Wednesday, Nov 2nd, senior citizens and students will be eligible for a discount.

Previamente conocido como la Muestra de Cine y Video Costarricense, para su edición número 19 este año, el evento cambió su nombre ya que incluyó producciones de Nicaragua, Panamá, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y la República Dominicana.
El evento es patrocinado por el Centro Costarricense de Producción Cinematográfica del Ministerio de Cultura y producido por la Productora Tiempo Líquido.
Según Patricia Velázquez, productora y co-propietaria de Tiempo Liquido, “la razón del cambio se debe a que por primera vez el festival amplía su campo de acción y se transforma en un festival Centroamericano y del Caribe respondiendo a la creciente efervescencia de la producción audiovisual en toda la región”.
Entre los quince filmes que compiten en la categoría de mejor largometraje de ficción se encuentra el filme costarricense “Gestación”, el cual generó buenas críticas a nivel nacional e internacional luego de su estreno hace dos años.
El resto de las categorías está conformado por: cortos de ficción, largometrajes documentales, cortos documentales, animaciones y video clips.
Todas las obras se exhibirán en las salas del Cine Variedades y serán evaluadas por prestigiosas y reconocidas figuras de la industria cinematográfica de México, Costa Rica, Colombia y Estados Unidos, según fuentes del Centro de Cine Costarricense.

Los asistentes al festival pueden participar en estas actividades sin ningún costo, y tener así la oportunidad de compartir con expertos en diversos campos de la producción audiovisual.
“Creemos en la necesidad de promover encuentros con figuras que se mueven en producciones y mercados cinematográficos más grandes y desarrollados que el nuestro, que pueden aportar en la formación de nuestros cineastas y realizadores”, señaló Velásquez.
El Festival Internacional de Cine y Video San José es el más importante de su género, el cual reúne a algunos de los más importantes miembros de la comunidad audiovisual centroamericana y del Caribe, así como también un gran número de fanáticos del cine.
La ceremonia de premiación y clausura se llevará acabo el lunes 7 de noviembre, último día del festival.
Las entradas tienen un costo de ¢1500 por función. También se ofrece un pase especial para todo el festival por un valor de ¢10000. El miércoles, adultos mayores y estudiantes recibirán un descuento especial.
