The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The technology company Microsoft has announced an investment of $1.4 million in 2014 to improve training and employment opportunities for youth in Latin America through the support of over 30 organizations in 21 countries in the region.

The investment will double the presence of YouthSpark centers, rising to 6 by the end of 2014, which provides technology training and job counseling to young people, especially women between 16 and 29 years old.

“We can support at least 3,000 at-risk youth. Thus, the program responds to the priority of the OAS (Organization of American States) to work to improve conditions for youth at risk,” said Linda Eddleman, CEO of Trust for the Americas, an affiliate of the OAS.

YouthSpark, which has global reach, started a year ago and has supported 26 million young people.

To date, Microsoft has donated nearly $350 million in cash and software to over 4,000 organizations in 19 countries in Latin America.

In 2014, they will allocate funds to more than thirty organizations in Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela. (EFE)
