The Costa Rica News (TCRN) โ The government of Costa Rica has signed an agreement with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) through which they can access scientific cooperation and scholarships for students and scientists.
The instrument of cooperation was signed in Geneva by the Costa Rican Ambassador Manuel Dengo, and the Director General of CERN, Rolf Heuer.
โThis agreement is of great strategic value to the advancement of research in particle physics in Costa Rica and Costa Rican participation in CERN programs,โ said Ambassador Dengo.
Costa Rica hopes that with this instrument scientific exchange among state universities and CERN is strengthened, and also students, engineers and Costa Rican scientists will have the opportunity to participate in fellowships, internships, courses and training.
The Costa Rican government said that CERN is the main research center for particle physics in the world and recalled that in 2013 the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to two of its scientists: Franรงois Englert and Peter Higgs for the discovery of the Higgs boson.
In Latin America, CERN has cooperation agreements with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and now Costa Rica according to official information.
The agreement must be ratified by the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica to enter into force.ย (ACAN-EFE)
