The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The U.S. Coast Guard has donated to a special team to Costa Rica for guidance and tracking training for creating a police unit specializing in diving.

“Our countries must remain focused on our common goal: to create a world-class coast guard, capable of monitoring the vast maritime territory of Costa Rica and protect it from any threat,” said Gonzalo Gallegos of the Embassy American in San Jose in a statement.

The new police diving unit consists of eight officers who were trained with former police divers in Miami, with the aim of strengthening drug, environmental and humanitarian work, said the Ministry of Security.

“Costa Rica is the country’s drug traffickers in Central America. What we have done is to confront the problem with professionalism”, said the Security Minister of Costa Rica, Mario Zamora.

The tracking equipment donated by the United States optimizes monitoring of the oceans and locating vessels more accurately. (EFE)
