Students from 15 Countries Graduating with Sustainability Degrees in Costa Rica

    The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – A total of 61 students from Latin America today held their graduation at the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) with the common goal of promoting the “construction of a more equitable and sustainable world,” reported the university.

    The outgoing promotion consists of 38 women and 23 men from countries throughout Central America as well as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, CATIE said in a statement.

    Among others, the students graduated with careers in organic farming, tropical agroforestry, management and conservation of tropical forests and biodiversity, and agribusiness development of watersheds.

    “CATIE is very excited and proud to have formed these new leaders. We call on them to be agents of change and contribute to building a society based on the proper use of innovation for competitiveness and sustainability,” said the General Director CATIE, José Joaquín Campos.

    In addition, CATIE, which is based in Turrialba, about 80 miles east of San Jose, said they have high expectations of the professional future of its graduates, and it is expected that a high percentage of them will have positions of leadership in their countries origin. (EFE)
