Strong Tide Alert Issued for Costa Rica’s Caribbean and North Pacific Coasts

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Ocean Information Module (MIO) for the University of Costa Rica has issued an alert for strong winds and tides for the Caribbean starting Tuesday until next week, so swimmers and boaters visiting these areas during the year-end holiday should be especially careful.

According to Omar Lizano, an oceanographer and coordinator for MIO, by Sunday the situation will intensify, with waves reaching up to four meters high.

In the North Pacific, the wind will create choppy offshore conditions, so boats should be careful when navigating at sea. In this area, the MIO predicts that waves will reach about 2.4 meters.

Meanwhile the South Central Pacific and have normal conditions, so swimmers and persons moving on boats should not take extra precautions to usual. (Amelia Rueda)
