    Costa Rica‘s sport fishing records speak for themselves with over 80 as well as claiming numerous IGFA sportfishing records. Costa Rica’s central Pacific is one of the most visited sportfishing locations around the world.

    Fishing excursions in Manuel Antonio and Quepos are divided into two main types – offshore and inshore fishing. Offshore fishing ranges from 20 to 40 miles out on the blue deep sea. Inshore fishing is done in shallower waters inside the bay. Inshore depths tend to range from 1 to 30 meters.

    Inshore Fishing

    Inshore fishing can be experienced without going too far away from land and fishing is done in water level that is about 30 meters deep. These fishing vessel are usually smaller in size and capacity and there are many local boats available called “pangas”.

    Inshore fishing can be done without a great deal equipment and it is much more affordable than offshore fishing. All though you may get the impression that inshore is less challenging; you will find great satisfaction because of the activity and wide variety of fish that you can catch close to shore.

    Offshore Fishing

    Offshore fishing is often referred as big-game fishing because of the mammoth sizes reached by deep sea species. If you have a competitive spirit, landing one of these big-game fish is a thrill of a lifetime.

    A good captain and team take into account location, tackle, weather and water conditions as well as other factors for a successful excursion. Your team will harness you up, and put you on the fish – while it’s a team effort to land a big marlin or sailfish, it is one of the most personally rewarding experiences for beginner or fishing aficionado.
    A sports fishing charter out of Manuel Antonio and Quepos can run anywhere from $250 for an inshore trip on a local “panga” boat to several thousand dollars for a large fully loaded, full service charter.
