Earlier this year Costa Rica made headlines nationally and internationally due to unethical organ trafficking, but another important aspect is that the donation rate is very low, only six per million people.
According to Dr. Clive Montalbert, transplant surgeon, in Spain the rate is 30 per million inhabitants.
According to the specialist, the demand in the country is about 500 kidney transplants a year, 40 liver, 20 heart, and 20 lung transplants.
Doctors are encouraging citizens to be organ donors to help save lives. (Crhoy)
