Due to the effects of the last hours and the saturation of the soils, the National Commission of Emergencies (CNE) declared RED ALERT for 4 cantons: Sarapiquí, Turrialba, Matina, and Talamanca.
In addition, it raised the Yellow Alert status for the cantons of Guatuso and San Carlos.
The CNE recommends that communities in conditions of risk be vigilant and comply with the recommendations of the first response institutions.
According to the Costa Rica National Meteorological Institute, the rains will continue in the upcoming days. We thank the population to inform themselves only by official sources and to maintain the necessary precautions.
As part of the follow-up and action plan for the incidents presented in different parts of the national territory due to the heavy downpours of recent days, the President of the Republic Carlos Alvarado will conduct an aerial assessment on some of the sites most visibly affected by the rains , accompanied by the president of the CNE, Alexander Solís, and the geologist Lidier Esquivel.
During the overflight, an assessment will be made of the watersheds of the Sarapiquí River and the Matina River, as well as the Matina Dam.
The CNE maintains the articulation of the institutions and the operative actions and makes a vehement call to the population that lives in areas of risk, so that they remain vigilant and abide by the recommendations of the official entities.
We -the TCRN Staff- will be aware of any eventuality in order to keep you informed about it. That way you will be able to take necessary measures and previsions. Our prayers are with you…
