President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, dismissed the criticism of his country and other nations in the region on the human rights situation, issued in a report by the US State Department.
“What the State Department says on all States and Central American nations, is a disqualification widespread throughout the region,” said the president.
The report says about Nicaragua that the executive branch is “increasingly authoritarian”.
The document also warns of high levels of corruption and a complex prison situation in the countries of Central America.
The Nicaraguan president described the report as a “totally wrong approach.”
Ortega’s statements were made at a ceremony in Managua receiving the Russian Deputy Defense Minister, General Valery Garasimov Vasilevich.
