The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – In its report ‘Where to Visit in 2015’, The Boston Globe says that Nicaragua is the best destination to visit in Central America for 2015 and Costa Rica is already out of fashion.
The article describes Costa Rica’s northern neighbor: “Forget Costa Rica — old news. Industry experts are calling Nicaragua the hottest destination in Central America, and one of its best bargains. The WTTC is predicting an 8.8 percent growth in international tourist spending over the next decade, making it one of the world’s top 10 emerging destinations. The political climate has long settled down and the country is throwing out the welcome mat to foreign visitors, investing in infrastructure and facilities. It’s a land of rich biodiversity, with volcanic peaks, rain forests, beaches, and nature reserves. In fact, the country boasts nearly 5 million acres of protected parks and preserves, filled with wildlife, including exotic birds, howler monkeys, turtles, and giant iguanas.”
Apart from Nicaragua, The Boston Globe recommends readers to visit Cuba, Burma, Budapest, Houston, Texas and Cartagena de Indias in Colombia. Experts predict that these places are booming in the coming years.
However, Costa Rica isn’t giving up its reign that easy. On December 11, the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT) launched an advertising campaign valued at $3 million, which aims to attract workaholics from the US and Canada to vacation in the country.
Between January and November this year, more than one million American tourists came to Costa Rica; 81 percent of these people were American, while 13 percent were Canadian. (Amelia Rueda)
