The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The printing of ballots to be used in the elections next February 2 in Costa Rica will be completed on December 30, said the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) in a press conference.

A total of 3,065,667 presidential ballots shall be prepared by the local printer RR Donnelley, the first private company in charge of the printing process and packing of ballot papers in the country.

TSE regularly used the services at National Printing to print the ballots but a cheaper price and a promise of a safe process were the reasons for the change, the court said.

“We are very pleased by the speed of the printing we are using,” said the director of the Electoral Registration TSE, Héctor Fernández.

According to Fernandez one of the most important advantages of performing the process with a new company is that new technologies have “a digital printing system which can include variable information on the ballot.”

The total cost of printing of ballot papers for the election will be about $ 300,000 and in an eventual second round the investment would be about $ 100,000, the TSE said in a statement.

The production of ballots began on November 18 which means that the preparation takes a little over a month. (EFE)
