The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Development Association of San Gerardo de Rivas, legal representative of the Race to Cerro Chirripo and the Organizing Committee, issued a statement advising that they have authorized the participation of Don Manuel Sibaja, an adult over 72 years old, for the run in Costa Rica.
At its extraordinary meeting on Monday, November 4, 2013, agreed on an exception to Article 19 of the Regulation, which reads: “When an athlete for two consecutive races, has not met the minimum times, they will not be included on the next edition.” This will allow Mr. Manuel Sibaja Arias participate, said the statement.
At this news, Don Manuel reportedly jumped for joy at the possibility to continue fulfilling the promise he made to his mother, who died in 2004 in a car accident.
“The previous agreement reflects the desire to continue with serious and responsible preparation of the next event, where athletes, their families and the general public can enjoy the warmth and beauty that is offered by the community of San Gerardo de Rivas,” said the official statement.
In this case, the Ombudsman and the National Council for Older Persons (CONAPAM) also conducted various measures to ensure Mr. Sibaja to be allowed to participate in the activity and ensure that it includes the participation of other older adults in the competition.
