Costa Rica achieved its first medal at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Artistic Gymnastics Championship thanks to Eva Luna Úbeda. The national athlete stepped onto the podium last week in the competitions taking place in Santa Tecla, El Salvador.
Úbeda won the bronze medal in asymmetric bars in the UPAG 1 category. Her result opened the count of medals for the Costa Rican delegation in the tournament.
In the team competition, Costa Rica UPAG 1 A finished in fifth position, while the UPAG 1 B squad occupied the eighth place.
The national selection is participating in the tournament with 30 gymnasts, who will compete until September 20 in the UPAG Youth and Adult categories.
The Central American and Caribbean Championship brings together representatives from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and El Salvador. The events are contested at the Ciudad Merliot Polideportivo Complex in Santa Tecla.
Women’s artistic gymnastics comprises the events of vault, asymmetric bars, balance beam, and floor. Men’s gymnastics is competed in floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
Costa Rica still faces several days of competition with options to expand its medal harvest. The tournament run until Sunday, September 20.
The delegation participates with the support of Icoder and the Gymnastics and Affiliated Sports Federation of Costa Rica. The competition holds the endorsement of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the Pan American Gymnastics Union (UPAG).
